As a public school teacher of 22 years. If the parents don't raise their children to be competent in a public shool environment, I can see how a teacher can lose it trying to establish some kind of control. Don't blame the teachers.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe violence should be used as a form of discipline in school systems. Violence breeds violence.
ReplyDeleteJoe - Corporal Punishment has been outlawed in California for some time now. It's outlawed in 30 states and DC and in 107 other developed countries. Also, it's been shown to be ineffective...
ReplyDeleteCertainly, a teacher "losing it" is not a reason to justify a kid getting beaten. How about a police officer "losing it".
The teachers need a supportive enviroment and the right classroom management tools. It's the responsibility of the district to make sure teachers are skilled to handle classes without resporting to violence, so I agree -- this isn't about blaming teachers, its about the policy and culture set by administration.
