BC/EFA!

Broadway Strike Has Dire Impact
on
BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS’ Current Fundraising Efforts

You are probably aware that due to the strike following the breakdown of negotiations between The League of American Theatres and Producers and the IATSE, Local One stagehands, more than 20 Broadway shows were unable to continue fundraising during the six-week appeal period leading up to The 19th Annual Gypsy of the Year Competition. Last year's Gypsy Competition generated over $3 million for BC/EFA - more than 20% of our annual budget.

For every week of the strike, Broadway Cares loses between $300,000 and $350,000 in revenue that would have been raised with audience appeals. This will undoubtedly have a great impact on our grant-making efforts in 2008.

In response to the work stoppage currently effecting Broadway theatres and the many phone calls we've received from people asking what they can do to help, BC/EFA announces:

Team Raiser

... an internet-based way to continue fundraising for BC/EFA on

www.broadwaycares.org

With the vital part of our grant-making ability at stake and our lack of presence in the theatres at this time, we have launched Team Raiser to ask that you, along with your family and friends help us sustain our fundraising online.

How Does It Work?

By clicking on the following link...

http://www.broadwaycares.org/events/GypsyOnlineFundraising2007.cfm

...you can make a general donation to Broadway Cares for Gypsy of the Year
- OR - make a donation on behalf of your favorite show.

All online donations are tax deductible. BC/EFA will even send you a special gift for all donations of $100.00 or greater as a token of our gratitude for your help (see below).

What Your Support Means

Without emergency support from caring people like you, BC/EFA will have to reduce – and in some cases suspend indefinitely – our annual grants to six programs at The Actors Fund including The AIDS INITIATIVE; The Phyllis Newman WOMEN'S HEALTH INITIATIVE; The Al Hirschfeld FREE HEALTH CLINIC and over 400 AIDS and family service providers across the country, often leaving people in our theatrical community, and your local communities, without the food, shelter, healthcare and emergency financial assistance they need to keep going.

So please, take a few minutes to support us online, and share this request for support with the people in your life who love Broadway and BC/EFA.

strike it up

As you probably know, the majority of Broadway is dark as of yesterday at 11am. Our local one stage hand union is currently on strike against cutbacks on their exisiting contracts with the league of theatrical producers. We are standing by our stage hands and hoping to be back to work as soon as these issues are resolved. You can see us each day outside the theatres supporting the cause.
