On June 2nd, I was honored by the American Theater Hall of Fame with a Fellowship as a "breakthrough performance" for my role
in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Each year the Hall of Fame selects an emerging theater artist to receive the Fellowship and grant. I was the recipient for 2011, along with up and coming director Daniel Talbott. The ceremony also honored Theater Hall of Fame member Rosemary Harris.

In the more showy role of Felicia, Nick Adams delivers a performance that is beyond my expectations. A fantastic dancer, a great comedienne and the best singer among the three leads, he actually is more an androgynous gender bender than a drag queen.

After seeing several sexy pictures of Adams’ perfect male physique, I wasn’t expecting to be convinced by him as a drag queen. Those arms are too masculine for anyone to think for a minute he’s a woman. His part in particular has some scenes in which he tries to pass as a woman so being feminine is vital to the role.

But whether it be a move made by director Simon Phillips or costume designers Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner or Adams himself, several of his costumes show off his manly chest and don’t even try to hide the pecs he’s packing. This makes him more androgynous and adds a whole new dimension to his character.

Sheldon, whose rich performance is crucial to this show staying grounded and authentic amid the flirtatious Adams' dazzling tricks and the more familiar (but earnestly acted) quest of Swenson's ambivalent character, does get to remind us all that we are here enjoying choices that come at considerable personal cost to those who make them.

Stage and screen star Florence Henderson — best known for her role as TV mom Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch" — will host the concert. Show time is 8 PM.
The upcoming concert will benefit both Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center.

I attended GLAAD Manhattan as an honorary host last night. GLAAD's biggest summer fundraiser, was held on the 20th Floor Rooftop at 230 Fifth (corner of 27th Street and 5th Ave). The views were beautiful and the place was packed. Other guests included:Jill Zarin and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps from Real Housewives of NYC; comedian Lisa Lampanelli; Jane Krakowski; Michael Urie and many others. It's an incredible organization that does so much to promote and ensure fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

I scored some comps from my insiders with Britney yesterday and saw her Circus Tour at MSG! It was amazing. I had the best time at the sold out show. She looks great and put on a terrific performance. Well done and thanks for the tickets!

I went to see Rock of Ages a little over a week ago to support my college bud Constatine Maroulis and my former Chorus Line castmate Katherine Tokarz. It was a hell of a good time. The music and energy onstage were awesome. It's like seeing a Broadway show and a rock concert all in one..... Ps... You can enjoy a refreshing Coors Light during the performance from your seat. Its unlike any other theatrical evening available in NYC. Rock on.

I do appreciate that you sought me out after receiving complaints from my friends, fans, and supporters regarding the other night at Turtle Bay.
I completely understand that you have a policy regarding capacity and dresscode. My posts via Twitter, facebook, and my blog comment on how your bouncer made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I watched him let a group of gentlemen into the bar, one of whom had an identical shirt to mine.
I do have to inform you that some messages posted on my blog by your general manager truly negate any goodwill you attempted in your deflection.
I will not attempt to become a patron of Turtle Bay, nor do I plan to mention it any further. Perhaps now your establishment and staff will be hyper aware of these situations and hopefully others in the gay community of New York will avoid an uncomfortable situation like I experienced.

Hi Nick & friends,

My name is Kristi Paris, and I'm the Marketing, PR, & Events Manager at Turtle Bay. We have received a large response regarding an issue that arose last night- it is really important to me to address this concern. I think it is really great that you have such a supportive network of friends...I would absolutely do the same thing for any one of my friends if I felt they had been mistreated. I have included everyone who left a valid email with their website submission, but please do pass this along to those who could not be reached, as I do want them to know our position but had no way of reaching them.

I am truly upset by what I have read from the website submissions. It is extremely important to us at Turtle Bay, and to me personally, to have a great relationship with all patrons and be supportive of our community- the gay community absolutely included. I know I speak on behalf of the entire staff and management here when I say that the last thing we'd ever want would be for someone to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable here because of their sexual orientation, or any other personal factor.

I did not witness the incident last night; I asked the staff members working last night and no one recalls the incident, so I cannot speak to what happened. However, I can assure you it is not Turtle Bay's policy nor wish to exclude any member of the gay community (I have many gay friends who come here frequently), and we would never, under any circumstance, refuse entry to someone based on their sexual orientation. We refuse entry to people with expired IDs, inadequate forms of ID, and if they are obviously intoxicated or violating the dress code. We ask people to wait in line if we are at our legal capacity, which we were at for most of the night, so I'm not sure if this was the case when you arrived...

I feel terrible about this impression/misconception and want to do everything I can to rectify the situation as soon as possible. May I please invite you and your friends in as my guests for lunch/dinner and drinks on us? I'd love to meet you and your friends and have the chance to personally apologize for any negativity you experienced here. I'd love the opportunity to show you all what a friendly, neighborhood establishment Turtle Bay is, and hopefully we can become a place that you and your friends of all backgrounds come to enjoy and frequent.

So this past week, at a friend's suggestion, I attempted to attend Turtle Bay on the east
side of Manhattan. It's a standard bar with cheap drink specials, so I thought I would check it out along with my boy friend and my
best friend.
As I approached the door, the bouncer looked me up and down, looked at my boyfriend then smirked and refused us entry to the bar. When asked why we couldn't go in he said it was because we were wearing white shirts and gave a laugh. We moved out of line, then watched a group of straight guys in white tshirts enter the bar. I was furious and decided not to cause a
scene but to Twitter and facebook about it instead.
Well... Thanks to my loyal fans and followers... Tons of people reposted and voiced their complaints to turtle bay. I received an email from the head of PR from the bar expressing their apologies for the "misconception." I understand she was doing her job and being polite, but she tried to spin it so Turtle Bay came out in a positive light.
Bottom line, I was discriminated against. I will not give my business to Turtle Bay and I urge you to do the same. This womans attempt to brush this aside as a misunderstanding is disingenuous at best if not hurtful and offensive to myself and the gay community of New York City.
If they are serious about remedying the situation, they would immediately remove the bouncer as an employee of the establishment.

Nick Plays Birdland

Nick Adams, who played Liver Lips Louie in the recent revival of Guys and Dolls, will make his solo cabaret debut next month at Birdland.

Adams will play the famed jazz club Aug. 17 at 7 PM. James Sampliner is musical director.

The young singing actor will also be joined be special guests, who will be announced at a later date.

Nick Adams has been seen on Broadway in A Chorus Line, Chicago and The Pirate Queen as well as in the national tour of Chicago. He has also performed at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and at the St. Louis Muny.

I attended the Gen Art Benefit in NYC. The I (Heart) Gen Art: 15th Anniversary Benefit on Wednesday night at 7W, bringing together patrons of the charity that has supported film, fashion, music and art for a decade and a half. Founded in 1994 by Ian and Stefan Gerard, Gen Art has showcased over 1,000 designers, filmmakers, musicians and visual artists, and has been responsible for helping stars like Zac Posen, Peter Som, and Adrien Grenier launch their careers.
